Surfacing Overview

Plaster

Plaster differs from drywall in that it coats an entire wall or ceiling in plaster, as opposed to just the screws and joints being covered in drywall systems. Gypsum plaster is harder than the joint compounds used in drywall and creates a stronger wall or ceiling. It is trowel applied and then finished it as it sets by repeatedly skimming over the surface with a trowel, removing blemishes and polishing it to the desired smoothness, or using a trowel, sponge or float, creating a pattern or semi-smooth to rough look in the plaster before it sets.

Stucco and EIFS

The exterior finishes we offer are either of the traditional stucco or EIFS variety. Traditional stucco is similar to cement, and is applied to wire lathe or mesh that is fastened to the sheathing of your home. Multiple layers of mortar and stucco are put on top of the wire lathe and give a home a monolithic stone look and feel that is very durable. EIFS stands for Exterior Insulation Finishing System, in this system foam block is applied to a homes sheathing, to which a base coat is applied, a nylon mesh is embedded into this base coat then sanded colored finish coat is applied on top of that. This system offers the insulating benefits of foam block wrapping your home, adding to the heat retention qualities of your homes interior insulation.
